A Local Commercial Real Estate Leader

James C. Dragon has seen several triumphs as an owner and managing partner. In 2000, the Dragons purchased the almost half-empty and in need of repair Central Plaza retail mall. This lot was 266,000 square feet and had 94,000 square feet of commercial space. Dragon collaborated with the City of Lowell to implement the necessary capital enhancements to make the Central Plaza an attractive commercial location. The plaza was constructed in 1965 and housed a Stop & Shop grocery store until its sale in 1979. Between 1979 and 2000, the plaza was held by two separate organizations until Dragon and his wife acquired it. The Dragons had a vision of a retail complex that appealed to local Lowell citizens with products and services. With the assistance of their son William, a qualified commercial real estate agent, James and Effie Dragon were able to create a plaza that was not only fully filled, but also maintained its occupancy during the coronavirus epidemic. This downtown Lowell property was sold for about $11 million at the end of 2021.
